Warrior Princess

This shoot was on a Sunday afternoon in a Christiansted Town parking lot beside a local ruin on St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. I won’t say it was a spur of the moment occasion, but it came together quickly with the help of a mutual friend and makeup artist for the day, Ki-ana Tonge. The model is Nashalis Gonzalez. I didn’t want to do the run of the mill photoshoot so I suggested a theme be chosen. Some ideas were tossed out there but I honestly didn’t know what would show up for the shoot. With the little there was in props and time, the model and makeup artist managed to pull it together in time for me to capture the Warrior Princess you see before you.

About the technical aspects of the image…

The time was between 3:30-5:30PM so we’re mostly benefiting from the shade the ruin building is giving us. Though the environment is pretty cool there are many modern aspects to the background that destroy the vibe so the background was replaced with a nice beach scene. Beyond that, there were some touch ups here and there to take out real life problems like smeared makeup, sweat, frizzy hair, etc. the usual suspects.

All in all, it was a great time shooting on this project.
